Hearing Exercises

Your hearing is more connected to your hormones than you might think. Estrogen receptors in the cochlea mean that shifting hormone levels during perimenopause can affect how you process speech in noisy environments, detect subtle sound differences, and maintain auditory focus.

These exercises are inspired by the LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement) protocol and auditory training research. Regular practice may help maintain and sharpen your listening skills.

The Science

Estrogen and progesterone receptors are present throughout the auditory system, including the cochlea and auditory cortex. Declining levels during perimenopause may be associated with changes in speech-in-noise perception, tinnitus onset, and noise sensitivity. Auditory training exercises have been shown to improve speech understanding and listening effort.

Volume Check
